What is the Health College Connection?
Health College Connection Programs I & II are designed to identify, prepare, and increase the number of minority and disadvantaged students entering health care careers.  The aim of HCCP I & II is also to increase the number of health care providers in Alabama's medically underserved Black Belt counties.

When and Where are the Programs?
Students will participate in the program for six weeks starting in the month of June each year at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System in Tuskegee, Alabama and ending in July.  Each day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.

What to Expect?
The TAHEC summer enrichment program will provide hands-on experiences in one of 21 health related disciplines at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System.
Students will see and hear from medical students and others who can relate their experiences and what it takes to enter health careers.

What will students do in the Program?
Students will be assigned to a health care provider to learn the daily requirements for the particular health care discipline.  They (students) will attend enrichment classes, complete and present research projects, travel to and meet with representatives from at least tow medical schools: Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA and University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, AL.

What will students receive?
High school students who successfully complete the program requirements will receive a $1,000 stipend.  College students will receive $1,200.

Who should apply?
Only high school seniors, undergraduate college freshmen, sophomores and juniors with health-related majors and an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale who are permanent residents of the state of Alabama.

How can students apply?
Mail your application to us (contact info).  In addition to the application, students must submit two letters of references from creditable sources such as previous instructors, write an essay, and provide a transcript and interview.  Application deadline is May 20, 2011.
